Following this period of dry, hot weather area counties are calling for burn bans. Both Johnson and Jefferson Counties declared their burn bans on Sunday.In both instances it was requested by Fire Chiefs in the Counties. 28 counties in Iowa are under burn bans that prohibit open fires.

Recreational fires in fireplaces and controlled burns with the proper permit are still being allowed. Those who violate the ban could be subject to a citation or arrest.
