County Tax Receipts Down First Half of Year

The Washington County Board of Supervisors heard a report regarding county funding as part of their meeting yesterday. These funds show the county has seen a decrease in tax revenue for the first six months of the year. Washington County Treasurer Jeff Garrett says this is because many people will pay the majority of their property taxes in the fall.
He adds out of the more than fifteen point six million dollars received, 34% of the funds stay here in the county with the remaining going to other taxing agencies.
The Supervisors also approved the second reading of proposed changes to the text of the Washington County Zoning Ordinance.
Discussion was held as well regarding a Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) application with the City of Kalona. This application will be discussed further at a future meeting.
