Tonight the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks will host Prairie City Monroe in the regional semifinal round of postseason softball. Mid-Prairie advanced through the quarterfinals with a 5-1 win over Williamsburg on Tuesday. PCM was a 12-4 winner over South Tama in their post season opener. It took the Golden Hawks a bit to get going against the Raiders before they put it away with some late insurance runs. Offensively Mid-Prairie ranks in the top ten in runs, total hits, triples, home runs, RBI, slugging percentage, and batting average in all of class 3A. In the circle the Golden Hawks are in the top ten in the class in ERA and strikeouts. On the defensive side of the ball Mid-Prairie holds the second best fielding percentage in the state in 3A. The Golden Hawks enter tonight’s match up with the Mustangs at 29-11 for the year. PCM comes into play with a 19-12 record. The Mustangs rank in the top ten in on base and slugging percentage. Mid-Prairie Head Coach Justin Lutjen says the Golden Hawks focus is more in house than it is on the Mustangs.

“It doesn’t matter who we play we take care of our own business, so we’ll probably hit the cages, take a few more swings and work on our discipline at the plate. Moving forward we have a great opportunity. We are looking forward to it, doesn’t matter who we play, what we do matters. When we show up and we are on, we are tough to beat”

Tune in tonight for pregame at 6:45 and first pitch at 7PM live from Kalona on AM and FM KCII and online at KCIIradio.com
