A Kalona man has been sentenced to 33 months in prison. 62 year old James Lavon Miller was sentenced on Thursday. In addition to his prison time he will also have three years of supervised release.

He was charged with four counts of making false claims to the IRS in early May. His conviction stems from tax returns he filed in 2008 and 2009 for the tax years 2005 to 2008.

Miller listed false amounts of interest income and federal withholding in his returns. He also claimed more than $6,000,000 in tax refunds that he wasn’t entitled to.
