The Lone Tree Lions continue their quest at making the state baseball tournament tonight when they play Burlington Notre Dame.

The Lions won their first round game over Danville 6-3 while Notre Dame won over West Burlington 7-2 in 8 innings.

Lone Tree is hitting .295, but have a team on base percentage of .448 and slugging .409. Their pitching staff has a team ERA of 3.15 and opponents are hitting a low .166.

Burlington Notre Dame is hitting .346, and also has a better on base percentage and slugging percentage with a .479 and .457 respectively.

Their pitching staff has a combined ERA of 3.56 and opponents are hitting just over .200 against them.

Lone Tree head coach Ryan Barnes says Notre Dame had to deal with a different team on Tuesday, and that extra innings was to the Lions benefit.

“They’re a pretty resilient team from what little we saw of them here Tuesday night, but they burned through a lot of pitching, so I’m not sure what we are going to see,” Barnes said. “But we have to be prepared for what we can control, so if go out and do what we know we can do, I think we’ll be alright.”

Barnes added that the Lions can’t leave as many runners on base as they did the last game.

“We have to hit, obviously, I think we left 13 runners on base [the last game],” Barnes said. “So if we come out and take care of that we’ll be alright and then if we get a good pitching performance out of [Harrison Miller], we need him to throw strikes, we’ll play defense behind him. If we take care of those two things I think we’ll be just fine.”

Lone Tree and Burlington Notre Dame face off in the second round at 7 P.M. In Danville.
