Lone Tree softball shocked their region last night after beating No. 5 Lisbon 6-4.

Head Coach Tom Dickey said it was a big win, but it was something he knew his team could do with the players they have on the field.

“We saw them play at Urbandale, and I really thought we matched up well with them athletically,” Dickey said. “We have good athletes at every position, but we’ve had some injury problems, but just putting our team together and getting all of our pieces together and playing through some young kids playing some tough spots on our team.”

Lone Tree doesn’t get much more than a day break from play and the heat, as they will need to turn right back around and play Marquette Catholic in the regional semi-final.

Marquette won their first game over Calamus-Wheatland 8-2 and their second round game over Preston 2-0.

Dickey said that his girls have their goals set and are going to play with a little chip on their shoulder tonight.

“We have a goal pyramid and each level of the level has a goal that we want to accomplish,” Dickey said. “We had a goal to reach the regional semi-final, and now it is to win the semi-final game.”

Lone Tree and Marquette Catholic play tonight at 7 in Lisbon.
