The Southeast Iowa Superconference champion Highland Huskie’s softball team put eight players up on the all-conference team this year.
Morgan Craig, Paige Wieland, Kassie Vazquez, Morgan Fisher, Mariah Freel, Cheyann Adamson, Courtnee Hahn and Bridget Murphy all made the list.
Wieland was a first team pick for infield, she hit .459 with nine RBI’s, and had a fielding percentage of .933.
Vazquez was also first team for outfield, she hit .449 with a triple, four doubles and a home run, and finally Freel was the third and final first team member for her pitching, despite being moved to utility. Freel threw 136 innings, had a 3.55 ERA and 105 strikeouts.
Head coach Carrie Wieland had this to say about her all-conference selections.
“They are all deserving so, but I am a little disappointed with [Freel] not making first team all pitcher and having to go to utility, she won the conference. I would say that is the only one I was disappointed on,” Wieland said. “Rightfully so, Kassie and Paige both got first team, so I would say it was a pretty good turn out, I wish that a couple of the kids who got second team got first team, but there were some good kids and some good batting averages in our conference this year.”
Highland tied Wapello and Pekin for the number of all conference selections.
