The number of fields with adequate moisture in South East Iowa continues to dwindle.

The quarter of an inch of rain we received did little in the dry and hot conditions we’ve been experiencing.According to the USDA’s Crop and Weather report 67 percent of fields in this portion of the state are short or very short on water.

Corn and Soybeans aren’t suffering terribly despite the conditions with around 90 percent of each in fair or better condition. Also 43% of oats have turned color, compared to 3 percent at this time last year.
