An open burn ban has been issued for Keokuk County. Emergency Management Coordinator Larry Smith says dry conditions are to the point where open burns are too dangerous and could threaten lives or properties.

The State Fire Marshall’s office issued a proclamation banning open burns in Keokuk County effective 10:00 this morning.  The total number of Iowa counties under a burn ban is now 68.

The only way to conduct a burn during this time is by applying for a permit.
