The Washington Demon volleyball team will play in their second tournament of the season tonight when they go to Wapello.
Washington played in Grinnell on Saturday and went 1-3 at the tournament. Head coach Jeff Spenner said they learned a lot of things there, and a couple of things to work on.
“I thought overall we had some really good playing times, we also just had some times that we struggled with some certain areas,” Spenner said. “It kind of showed in our record a little bit, but it was a pretty competitive tournament. Otherwise, we have a lot of stuff we can work on, but we have a good base also.”
One thing that Spenner noted was that the team’s serve receive will need to be sharper in their next competition.
Spenner also talked about the team looking for the youth of the team to step up into some starting roles with Senior Johannah Vittetoe being out for the season.
“I’ve put a lot of pressure on two young girls to step up into that spot, and we also have a new libero, we’re also looking into that area,” Spenner said. “There are some younger girls who are in that freshmen, sophomore and junior age that we might be looking at also to fill into some of these holes in the future.”
The Demons will see Central Lee, Columbus Junction and Holy Trinity tonight at the Wapello Tournament that starts at 4:00.
