Heat and Drought Could Cause Stress on Younger Trees

The heat and drought could be starting to cause stress on area trees. Patrick O’Malley from the ISU Extension says trees that are three to four years old should have a sufficient root system, but could need some extra watering around the base of the tree.
He adds to water trees early in the morning to avoid evaporation so the water will get into the ground. O’Malley says a sign of tree stress is leaf wilting, or the leaf turning yellow.
He notes trees at least ten years old will have an extensive root system to survive the dry conditions.
