IMS held their early bird meet last night, and it was Iowa City High who came away with the win for the girls, and Muscatine for the boys.

The host’s, IMS, finished in seventh place for both boys and girls, with 233 points on the girls side and 177 on the boys.

Kirby Shetler was the top runner for the IMS boys, finishing in 18th with a time of 18:39. The other IMS top five runners were Cody Miller in 20th, Cameron Gingerich in 28th, Jacob Valov in 50th and Dillon Bender in 62nd.

Shetler said he was happy with how he raced, and expects big things out of IMS in the future.

“My individual goal is to just keep improving my time as we go from meet to meet,” Shetler said. “As a team, after placing seventh here I think we can make a run for it in conference and districts.”

Muscatine won with 32 points, IA City High was in second, and Mediapolis was third. Highland was fourth, WMU was eighth behind IMS and Lone Tree was 10th.

On the girls side of things, Renee Buckwalter was the top finisher for IMS, she finished 23rd with a time of 18:41.

The other scoring runners were Riley Schmieder who finished 28th, Michaela Gingerich in 58th, Camila Segar in 59th and Summer Schrock who finished 65th.

Buckwalter said her goals for this meet were to test the waters in her first competition.

“I know it probably won’t be my fastest race, it’s just to get started so I’m ready for the next races to see what it’s like,” Buckwalter said.

Iowa City High won the meet with 25 points, Cedar Rapids Jefferson was in second and in third was Lone Tree with 103 points.

IMS will compete at Fairfield on September 6th.
