Keota will host their home tournament today for volleyball.

The Eagles held this tournament last year in the middle of September, but have changed things up a little bit and are holding one of the earliest tournaments in the area.

Head coach Dan Stout says that he wants his team to do well since it is a home tournament, but with how early it is, he understands there could be some things to work out.

“This is our own tournament so we’d like to go in and win this thing, but if we drop a game or match or two here or there, this is basically a preseason type game for us, so we get kids going where they’re supposed to be and knowing where they’re at,” Stout said. “We have five Seniors but even with that inexperience is going to be a big part of our team here early on. You can’t simulate game’s in practice it just seems like the team doesn’t go as hard unless you’re playing against a team with another jersey on, so I think we’ll get a good chance tonight.”

The Eagles went 3-1 in last year’s tournament, and lead off with Pekin this year at 4:15.

There will be two different playing pools, the blue pool will feature Keota, Pekin, Lone Tree and Montezuma, and the gold pool will have Highland, English Valley, Belle Plain and Mid- Prairie.

The Keota Eagle tournament will start at 4 P.M. tonight.
