Many children in the Washington area kept themselves busy the last couple of months, not just with outdoor activities, but inside by reading. Don Ruffenach with the Washington Public Library says there were 217 registered in their summer reading program, an increase of 44 percent from last year. He says this increase came from everyone’s awareness of what can take place in the library itself.
Ruffenach says different age levels attended meetings and focused on different topics. He adds special activities were a part of the program as well. Ruffenach says the goal of the program is to continue to foster reading over the summer.
