Local merchants are getting ready to take part in an annual statewide event this weekend.
Michelle Peiffer from the Washington Chamber of Commerce says Iowa’s Tax Free Weekend is held every year to offer parents savings with their back to school shopping.

Clothing and footwear considered appropriate for everyday wear under $100 are exempt from state and local option sales tax.

Peiffer says shopping for these items locally helps to create further benefits because the money stays in the local community.

Iowa’s tax free weekend started in the year 2000 and runs tomorrow and Saturday.
