Two cities in Washington County are in the process of applying for funding to enhance trails.  During a meeting yesterday morning, officials from the city of Washington and Kalona met with members from the Washington County Resource Enhancement And Protection (REAP) Committee to discuss applications for the funding from the Department of Natural Resources.

Washington is applying for up to one hundred thousand dollars to pave part of the Kewash Trail west of Highway 1.  Kalona’s application is for a trail around the City Park.

Ed Raber with Washington Economic Development Group says funding isn’t guaranteed to be awarded, but communities are encouraged to apply each year for the funding. These applications will be submitted with letters from the Washington County Conservation Board to the DNR by August 15th.
