A resident from Washington has been named the top horseshoe pitcher in the state.  Austin Witt took first place in the Junior’s Championship Class at the Iowa State Fair on Sunday.  Winning second place in the Class A Junior Division was Michael Witt from Washington.

There are three classes that compete for the top spot including the Women’s Championship Class and Open Singles.  Taking fourth in the Class A Division of the Open Singles class was Tom Cranston from Keswick.  The State Fair hosts both Championship and Open Class competitions every day of the Fair with Division winners crowned daily.

Some locals also placed well in the 4-H Horse and Pony competition. Mason Wiles of Wellman was named Champion in Miniature Horse Showmanship and Cheyanne Hunt of Wapello in Hunter Under Saddle.

4-H members from around the area were also named reserve champion in Pony Pleasure, Senior Showmanship, Junior Western Pleasure and Champion Trail. Judging was held between the 7th and 9th.
