A Washington resident was able to take part in two unique experiences recently.  As part of President Obama’s bus tour of Iowa earlier this week, Terry Philips was able to lead the Pledge of Allegiance with the crowd before the President spoke in Oskaloosa on Tuesday.

He was invited because of his involvement with Veteran’s affairs through the Democratic Party. Philips says even though the Pledge contains only 31 words, he was nervous about saying the words in the correct order.

On Wednesday, he had the opportunity to eat breakfast with the President as well.  Philips says he along with two other Veterans from eastern Iowa shared concerns about Veterans’ issues.  He notes this was an exciting experience that he won’t forget.
