The No. 15 WMU girl’s volleyball team won their first conference match last night.

The Wolves took on Louisa Muscatine at L-M, and swept them in the three sets 25-12, 25-11 and 25-17.

The leading killer for the Wolves was Erica Robinson with 12 with Alicia Escher right behind her with eight.

Katie Benson set up WMU with 24 assists on the night and Anna Crawford went perfect on the night from the serving area, and tallied three aces for herself.

The Wolves played big up front too, with Emily Mathews and Nicole Escher both getting two blocks.

Head coach Dave Pieart says his team showed their mental side of their game last night by going into an away match and taking care of business.

“We’ve been working really hard this year on our mental focus, trying to stay up for all of the games, and having no let ups and no opposing streaks or anything like that and I thought we did a really good job of maintaining that last night,” Pieart said. “Anytime you go to an opponents place, they’re always going to play tough at home; they’re always going to play tough in the conference opener, so I was really happy with how we played last night.”

The 5-2 Wolves will play Columbus Junction next on Thursday.
