A scam targeting businesses in the northeast Iowa community of Manchester has prompted an alert to be sent to area businesses.  Michelle Peiffer from the Chamber of Commerce says the group called SRI or America’s Youth are asking businesses for donations on behalf of schools.  She says whenever a business is approached by someone asking for donations, they should call the Chamber to see if it is a legitimate group.

Peiffer says many times, if someone is coming to Washington to solicit donations, they will approach the Chamber first to let them know what they are doing.  She notes the goal of a Chamber of Commerce is to be a resource that a business can turn to in case a situation like the one in Manchester happens in Washington.
