The city of Washington has approved a plan to spur development. During last night’s City Council meeting, an Urban Renewal Plan was approved as a Tax Increment Financing district for the Oakwood Village Subdivision.  This district will be added to the exiting ones in the city.

The city is also one step closer to amending the ordinance for limited sight-distance intersections and changing the city code for animal protection and control.

Discussion was held regarding unauthorized burials in city cemeteries.  It was decided to charge a $400 fee for the disinterment of remains.

Tabled to the next meeting was the decision to upgrade the tornado sirens because of a radio narrow banding requirement.  The council wants to have the 911 Commission fund the more than $4900 in upgrades to the equipment.  This upgrade is required by the federal government to be completed by the first of the year.
