Columbus Junction ran a cross country meet in Pella on Saturday and finished 12th on the girls and boys side as a team.

The lady Wildcat’s were lead by Claire Hamilton, who finished 50th in a time of 18:11.

Other Wildcat scorers were Taylor Hills in 56th, Caitlin Chaney in 60th, Ashley Canny in 63rd and Grace Chapman in 65th, giving the girls team a score of 294.

Dowling Catholic was the winner of the meet on the girl’s side with a score of 21.

On the boy’s side, Eli Sents ran to the top of the team again with a time of 18:43, good for 39th place. Other boy’s scorers were Efrain Barajas in 54th, Josh Keller in 76th, Dalton Howell in 92nd and Mitchell Roush in 93rd, for a team total of 354.

Dowling Catholic also won the boys side of things, with a score of 18, and their four top runners taking the four top spots in the race.

Columbus Junction head coach Steve Riley says the times run by Hamilton and Sents were close to the same times they ran in their first meet, but that this course is much more challenging, and is a good sign of things to come.

He added that this meet featured a lot of bigger schools that Columbus won’t see normally.

“This is another real big meet that has a lot of 3A and 4A schools, and it is just a way for us to get that real good competition and a good workout, and get us sharpened a little bit for the season,” Riley said.

The Wildcats will run next tomorrow at the Keota Invite.
