First Freeze Possible Tonight and It’s Time to Protect Plants
Posted By News On @ 6:28 am In Today's Local News | Comments Disabled
Southeast Iowa could see its first freeze tonight and precautions need to be taken to protect tender plants. Meteorologist Bill Nichols with the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities recommends putting blankets or plastic over vegetation that might be susceptible to the cold temperatures. He says this works on temperatures that might get two to five degrees below freezing.
Nichols says seeing the first freeze now is about three weeks earlier than usual. Our first freeze last year happened October 21st and the earliest the temperatures have reached these levels in Washington was September 13, 1902.
