The Highland cross country team ran at the Golden Hawk invite last night and got second in the boys competition, and did not place in the girls.

For the boys, Matt Eden led the way for the Huskies finishing third overall with a time of 18:10, right behind him was teammate Evan Mahler with a time of 18:12.

Tucker Hall grabbed sixth place for the Huskies, and other scorers were Keiffer Sexton in 19th and Zach Popham in 20th.

Matt Eden talked about the great conditions for running after his race.

“Conditions wise the weather is the nicest we’ve had all year, and we knew the course was a tough one so we were preparing for hills and working on hills, and we brought our ‘A’ game and I think we finished pretty well,” Eden said.

Highland finished second behind Mid-Prairie with 48 points.

On the girl’s side, just three girls ran for Highland, with the lead runner being Bridget Murphy with a time of 19:01 good for 15th, behind her was Amber Bean in 23rd and Nicole Miller in 39th.

Head coach Angie Stobel talked after the meet about the goal for her team.

“I think we need to keep running against great teams like Mid-Prairie and Muscatine, and trying to keep up with them, because I think that is going to make it better for when Districts roll around,” Strobel said.

Highland runs again Saturday at Pekin.
