IMS ran at the Golden-Hawk invite last night, with the girls finishing fourth, and the boys not able to place.

On the girls side of things Renee Buckwalter led the way for IMS with a seventh place finish in a time of 17:53, while Riley Schmieder was eighth with a time of 18:23.

Other scorers were Camila Segar in 33rd, Summer Schrock in 41st and Alvard Mamikonyan in 42nd.

After the race Buckwalter talked about her race strategy.

“I just tried to keep my pace even, the last course was really hilly, and this one wasn’t as bad,” Buckwalter said. “[The hills] was something I kind of focused on, but I just focused on keeping my pace even.”

IMS finished fourth with 87 points.

On the boy’s side, Cody Miller was the top runner, finishing 10th with a time of 18:30.

Other IMS boy’s scorers were Kirby Shetler in 15th, Jacob Valov in 49th, Jacob Schmieder in 60th and Kobi Russom did not finish.

After his race, Miller talked about the team, and what they are working on.

“We’re a younger team so we’re building, getting better every day,” Miller said.

Head coach Marty Gingerich also talked after the meet about what’s next for his team.

“We have nine days until City High, at the University of Iowa course, it’s a course that we tend to have good times on. The competition is different, than running against large schools,” Gingerich said. “It’s not a large meet in terms of number of schools, but there will be large schools there.”

IMS will race at Iowa City High next Thursday.
