The meals at Mid-Prairie and Keota schools may be looking greener this year. New government guidelines for school lunches went into effect with the start of the school year.

According to Superintendent at both schools, Mark Schneider, these changes include more servings of fruits and vegetables and smaller portions of meat and grains.

He adds this builds on the work the districts have already done. The new requirements also include calorie limits for school lunches for the first time and sodium standards.
