It was the home district opener for Central Lee Friday night, but it was Mid-Prairie that crashed the party. The Golden Hawks put up 27 points in the first quarter and led by a dominating 47-0 score at the halftime break before posting a 54-7 win to open up district play. The Golden Hawks got on the board just one minute in on a 4th down 44 yard touchdown connection from Reid Miller to Ryan Hoffman, Miller’s first passing touchdown of the year. Mid-Prairie cashed in four minutes later on a 60 yard Essaa Baylor touchdown run on a sweep around the right side. Mid-Prairie continued their run of good field position as they started every first half drive but two in Central Lee territory scoring less than a minute later on a nine yard Canaan Powell tote that capped a three play 13 yard drive set up by an Austin Errthum interception one of two from him on the night and one of four total forced turnovers by Mid-Prairie. Still in the first frame Mid-Prairie made it 27-0 when Spencer Shalla hauled in a 34 touchdown toss from Miller over the middle.

The hits kept coming from Mid-Prairie. 15 seconds into the second quarter Ryan Hoffman took a jet sweep around the end 48 yards for the score Canaan Powell would add a second touchdown run to his total in the quarter and Baylor posted his second and third score of the night before the half. Following the break Mid-Prairie continued to dominate the Central Lee Hawks as Baylor cashed in the first Golden Hawk possession for his fourth and final score of the night with a 12 yard touchdown run up the middle. Following the game Head Coach Pete Cavanagh talked about his teams overall performance.

“Yeah, I think our offensive line played really well, and it’s kind of nice to move the ball on first down, and in the first quarter we got the ball into the wind,” Cavanagh said. “We were able to get some nice passes, Reid Miller got some good reads and passes to Spencer Shalla and Ryan Hoffman, so definitely, our offense played much better.”

Mid-Prairie was led on the ground by Baylor’s four scoring runs and 138 rushing yards on just 14 carries. Reid Miller was five of 10 through the air with 93 yards and two touchdowns, his favorite target was Ryan Hoffman who hauled in four passes for 59 yards and a score. David Aldeman posted three tackles for loss for the defense. With the win Mid-Prairie is now above .500 for the first time this year at 2-1 and moves to 1-0 in district play.
