Unemployment figures in Washington County are showing more people seeking employment based on information released yesterday. Iowa Workforce Development information for August shows more than 11,800 people are in the labor force, with 4.9% of the people in the county are out of work and seeking employment. This is an increase of seven-tenths of a percent from last month.
In southeast Iowa, unemployment numbers went up except in Henry and Johnson counties where the rate remained the same. Across the state, unemployment rates went up by two-tenths of a percent staying two and a half percent lower than the national figure of eight point one percent.
