The fate of drought assistance for Iowa livestock producers is still unknown. According to U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley, the deadline for a new five year farm bill is September 30th.

He adds he’s pushing the Senate to consider their options for helping those hurt by the drought. Whether that be including drought disaster assistance in the Farm Bill like in 2008 or backing the Disaster Assistance Bill.

He explains that those who farm corn and soybeans are not the main worry, as 92% are covered by crop insurance.
