The Winfield- Mt. Union Volleyball team and IMS squared off in a Southeast Iowa Superconference matchup last night, and it was the Wolves who got the victory.

WMU won in three straight sets 25-20, 25-15 and 27-25.

WMU head coach Dave Pieart says it was a good win for the Wolves, after seeing IMS just this weekend, and that their hitting was the key to the win.

“We had worked quite hard on our offense, trying to reduce our hitting and such, and we came out very strong in the first couple of games,” Pieart said. “ We were averaging 15 kills a game which is quite a bit more than we normally do, so our offense was really clicking, and when we’re hitting that way it is going to be hard for a team to stay with us.”

Shelby Therme led the Wolves in kills with 14 and digs with 22. Katie Benson had 35 assists on the evening, and Alicia Escher had 2 aces, 12 kills and 15 digs on the night.

On the IMS side of things, Olivia Yutzy had 11 kills on the night, while Casey Perez had only 17 assists and Kristin Davis had 23 digs.

IMS head coach Cindy Miller says it was a tough loss, and that the girls got momentum in the third set, but it was too late.

WMU plays Mediapolis next on Thursday, while IMS plays Highland next week.
