The Winfield- Mt. Union volleyball team played No. 1 in 3A Mediapolis last night, and found out why they are No. 1.

The Wolves put some points on the board, but it was the Bullettes who got the win in three straight sets, 25-15, 25-16 and 25-14.

Alicia Escher led the Wolves in kills by a lot with 10, Shelby Therme was the closest behind her with four.

Therme did have six aces on a 17-17 night of serving and 11 digs.

Head coach Dave Pieart says he was happy with the play out of the gate, but that his team just couldn’t keep up with the consistency of Mediapolis.

“[We] could hurt them with the serves, there were times during the match where we could hurt them with our offense, and there were times that our defense was holding up quite well,” Pieart said. “We just couldn’t put it together as consistently as they could, I don’t know if we could challenge them every single day, but I do think we could beat them at some point on any given day.”

WMU hosts the Southeast Iowa Superconference volleyball tournament next Thursday.
