Two area teams start their journey to try and get to the state volleyball tournament tonight in class 1A region eight.

Winfield- Mt. Union hosts Maharishi in their first match tonight.

WMU is 25-7 and has 10.06 kills per set with 3.34 aces per set. Maharishi is 0-23 with 1.05 kills per set and .084 aces per set.

Head coach Dave Pieart says they are going to play this match like any other, and not get caught up in stats.

“It’s one of those that we haven’t seen them, we don’t know them, and we don’t want to get caught up in the trap in over looking them,” Pieart said. “We’ve been trying very hard this week to gear up for no let downs, focus on what we want to do [and] don’t take any opponent lightly.”

While WMU is playing their first match, right above them in the bracket, WACO is visiting New London for their first match.

WACO is 3-21 with 3.72 kills per set and 2.03 aces, while New London is 29-10, with 8.46 kills per set and 2.92 aces per set.

Both matches start at 7:00 P.M.
