The rain received the last week has helped the grass to grow across the area prompting city officials to remind property owners of its grass and weed ordinance.  Steve Donnelly with Building and Zoning for the City of Washington says the maximum height of grass and/or weeds allowed in the city is eight inches on all residential and commercial properties.

He says tall grass, weeds, non-ornamental vines, brush and other growth are considered a nuisance.

Donnelly adds these nuisances are subject to the city’s nuisance abatement process.  He says the city encourages property owners to keep their grass, weeds, and other growth trimmed.  To see the full city ordinance, contact Washington City Hall.
