A Washington resident or student may be the next person to put their stamp on Washington athletics according to a proposal from Washington Superintendent Mike Jorgenson. Jorgenson tells KCII news the Washington School district was recently contacted by DePaul University who advised them that the current “Demon Head” logo was a trademarked image and Washington would not be granted permission to use it. Because of this Washington will need to phase out the current logo and is not permitted to create anything new using the image.
Due to the circumstances surrounding logos affiliated with Washington athletics Jorgenson has proposed a contest idea going forward. This would result in students and residents of Washington being able to submit entrees that would first be screened by the board and ultimately chosen by the student body.
Jorgenson says that while there has not been an administrative meeting since contact with DePaul University, the feedback from local administration has been very positive regarding the idea.
