Area farmers were reminded recently about the importance of staying safe during the harvest season thanks to area youth. Amy Green, Washington County 4-H/Youth Coordinator says volunteers delivered “Stay Safe, Take a Break” bags to 200 farmers throughout Washington County.
The bags included items such as granola bars, bottled water, safety glasses, pain medication as well hand warmers and homemade treats. Washington County farmer Kathy Brinning says their bag came at the right time as they were frustrated and the bags helped them “feel rejuvenated.”
These bags were made possible by several sponsors: Washington County Extension & 4-H, Agri-Way Partner LLC, Culligan Water, DeKalb/Asgrow (Shauna Sieren), Fareway, Farm Bureau Financial Services – Ann, Williams, Don Adam, Paul Bell, Dave Steele, Farmer’s Saving Bank, Federation Bank, Hills Bank & Trust, Hy-Vee, Kat’s Grain, Mid-Prairie FFA, Precision Equipment, Riverside Feed & Grain, Washington Corn Growers Association, Washington County Farm Bureau, Washington Lion’s Club, and Washington State Bank.
