Mid-Prairie’s 2012 homecoming guest came to Wellman Friday night and crashed the party. In a game heard on KCIIradio.com and AM and FM KCII the #2 ranked Mediapolis Bulldogs scored a 41-0 win to take the lead in the district five race. Mediapolis got on the board with under a minute to go in the first quarter on a 13 yard touchdown connection from Jesse Ertz to Jordan Wagenbach. Under a minute later Mepo did it with the defense as Ertz intercepted a Reid Miller pass, the first of four interceptions thrown by the Golden Hawks on the night and raced 50 yards for the score. Mepo would score twice more in the quarter on a 20 yard strike from Ertz to Wagenbach and a one yard Dalton Scott touchdown run to take a 28-0 lead to the locker room.

The second half was more of the same as the Mid-Prairie offense struggled to find traction against a tough Mediapolis defense. Wagenbach came up with his first INT of the night on Mid-Prairie’s first second half possession and the Bulldogs turned that into points six plays later when Ertz found tight end Chase Miller from yards out for the score, Miller would grab a second five yard scoring pass from Ertz with under 30 seconds to play in the third frame to make the score 41-0.

Mediapolis owned the stat sheet posting 23 first downs to Mid-Prairie’s 11, outgaining the Hawks 392 to 147 in total yards including 171 to 53 on the ground and 221-94 through the air. The Bulldogs also won the turnover battle 4-0. Following the game Head Coach Pete Cavanagh spoke about the undefeated Bulldogs.

“Mediapolis is a very good team, ranked No. 2 in the State, going in we knew they had a good quarterback in Jesse Ertz and that we’d have our hands full with that,” Cavanagh said. “But overall, I think they were really good everywhere, both offensive and defensive line, linebackers played really well. A really good football team, we had our hands full on the line of scrimmage and it showed up last night, obviously a very good opponent.”

With the win Mediapolis takes over sole possession of first place in district five at 4-0 and 7-0 overall. Mid-Prairie’s five game winning streak comes to an end the Golden Hawks are now 5-2 overall 3-1 in district and will next be in action Friday at West Burlington Notre Dame, you can catch all of the action live on KCIIradio.com with pregame at seven and kickoff at 7:30.
