IMS finished second at the Washington volleyball tournament this weekend after going 2-1 in the pool play.

IMS beat Wilton in three set, winning 21-16 in set one, dropped set two 21-19 and won set three 15-12, lost to Iowa City Regina in two sets 21-17 and 21-15, and beat Sigourney in three sets winning 21-16, losing in set two 24-22 and won the final set 15-12.

In the tournament finals, IMS beat Washington in three sets, winning set one 25-22, losing set two 25-23 and winning set three 15-13.

They went on to lose to Wapello for the championship in three, losing set one 25-15, winning set two 25-17 and losing set three 15-13.

Olivia Yutzy led the team in kills, doubling the closest teammate with 44 for the weekend. Casey Perez had 61 assists, and Laura Hochstetler had 52 digs.

The team had a 91 percent effectiveness serving record with 35 aces as well.

Head coach Cindy Miller said it was heart braking after losing to Wapello by just one point, and that they just couldn’t get the offensive push to win that set.

IMS is now 18-13 overall.
