Last weeks meeting regarding the FEMA mapping in Kalona drew in a number of concerned citizens. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says that around 100 people stopped in to gather information on what their participation in the National Flood Insurance Program would mean to them financially and as a property owner.

He notes Washington County let the City utilize their municipal mapping software to more accurately answer resident’s questions.

A decision on the City’s participation in the program will be made at next weeks meeting. If the resolution is passed, residents would then be able to go out and purchase coverage for their homes.
