Thanks to some government funds, a few local jurisdictions will be receiving bulletproof vests for their officers. The City of Sigourney will be getting a piece of over $35,000 to be used for the bullet-resistant body armor.
The law enforcement agencies receiving the money from the U.S. Department of Justice Bulletproof Vest Partnership are located across eastern and southeastern Iowa.
Sigourney Chief of Police Allan Glandon says with the grant they were able to buy a new vest to replace an officers’ that had passed its five year lifespan. Other agencies receiving funds locally include Coralville, Iowa City and Louisa County.
