The students at Washington Middle School found creative ways this week to celebrate being drug free. Red Ribbon Week wrapped up yesterday at the school.

Red Ribbon Week is recognized annually by schools across the country to honor the life of Drug Enforcement Agency agent Enrique Camarena who lost his life in the line of duty in 1985.

Washington Middle School 7th grade teacher and student council Co-Adviser Connie Svenby says activities this week included themed dress up days such as “put a cap on drugs day” where students were allowed to wear a hat at school and “sock it to drugs day” where students were encouraged to wear crazy socks to class. Svenby says the event is organized by the Middle School student council and the assigned coadvisors.
