A proclamation to help farmers impacted by this year’s drought is about to end.  Governor Terry Branstad extended a weight limit lift last month aimed at the transporting of hay, straw and stover.  Washington County Engineer Jacob Thorius says farmers transporting these items can carry up to 12.5% over the legal load limit with the axle weight limit remaining at 20,000 pounds.

The proclamation also directs the Iowa Department of Transportation to monitor the temporary lift on all Iowa roads except interstates.  Thorius says the proclamation should be a reminder to drivers about slower moving vehicles being on the roads.  The extension on the weight lift expires Thursday the 24th.
