The Washington Demons rolled away with their final regular season win, 42-0 over Centerville on senior night.
Washington started with the ball, and on their first set of downs took the ball down the field in four plays and ran a naked bootleg with Daryn Sebelius to score their first touchdown, but Mason Quigley missed the PAT due to the bad field condition.
Centerville had one of their many three and out series, as their offense was working with the passing game in the first half, but gave up on it in the second. Washington scored on their next possession with a two yard run by Kyle Roder, who banged up his ribs again in the game, and will need to protect himself until Wednesday.
The Demons struggled with their offense for awhile, after their defense recovered a fumble late in the first quarter off a bad snap, the Demons would go scoreless, until a 13 yard touchdown run by Carl Sivels made the score 20-0.
The defense was out in full force as usual, as on the next set of downs, they forced Centerville back 10 yards off of sacks, and made the punter stand at the back of his own endzone. The snap went over his head, and Washington had the safety, but again after great field position the Demons could put nothing on the board as they were plagued with offsides penalties the whole first half.
In the second half, the Demons came out prepared, stopping the Big Reds on their first set of downs and scoring on their own first set of downs in the second half with a 24 yard run by Alex Coker. On the ensuing kickoff, Tanner Knupp ran down and stripped the ball from their return man Grant Walker, and set up another score for Washington for the 16 yard touchdown pass from Sebelius to Knupp.
The Demons scored once more off a Brad Skubal four yard run to make the final score 42-0 in soggy and wet conditions.
Demon head coach Randy Shrader talked after the game about the score, and how it may not have showed the difficulties the Demons faced in the game.
“Our kids decided to take the pedal off the gas, and we should have went right after them and stuck a fork in them in the first half, but then we rallied in the second half, and got the continuous clock which was our goal,” Shrader said. “Like I said, they through the ball well, and we didn’t cover well, and at times our pass rush wasn’t that good and we didn’t block very well tonight, and you’re sitting here saying we won 42-0, but we didn’t play that well, we kind of played down.”
Washington will Host Norwalk for their first round playoff game on Wednesday.
