The Washington Demons ran at the IMS invite last night and had two 10th place finishes.
The girls were led by Stephanie Loy who finished with a time of 18:26 good for 44th place. Sarah Greiner was 54th, Kaitlin Buchholz was 58th, Mariah Reighard was 62nd and Maddie Bohr was 65th.
After her race Loy talked about what made the lead runners successful.
“A lot of it has to do with hills, if you’re a good hill runner, you’ll do better,” Loy said. “I always psych myself out, so I did a lot better than I thought I was going to.”
The girls finished with 267 points.
On the boy’s side, Noah Lebsack led his second race back of the season finishing 24th with a time of 18:23. Other scorers were Curtis Vest in 47th, Brandon Rhinhart in 49th, Austin Latchem in 65th and Jiovanni Tapia in 87th.
Lebsack talked after his race about what the most important part of his race is.
“I think it’s the finish, I always try to have a massive kick at the end, and last meet I didn’t have as much of a kick that I wanted,” Lebsack said. “So I kind of worked on it, and that last part of the race is what I feel is most important, because you can pass like 20 people sometimes.”
The boys finished with 266 points.
Head coach Steve Roth said this race was about the way his team has ran all year, despite his team not liking the course.
“I like this course, I know my team doesn’t, but it’s a golf course, it’s hills and that’s what cross country is,” Roth said. “I’ve only been doing it for two years, but it is all about running hills and being good at the end, I’m pleased, we ran consistent with what we were doing.”
Washington runs again next week at the Southeast Iowa Conference meet.
