A way of warning residents about severe weather is celebrating its anniversary today.  Donna Dubberke from the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities says changing to their polygon system of warning residents started five years ago today.  She says the new system has allowed them to focus on the actual storm and how it behaves.

Dubberke adds when severe weather was in our area in the spring, the system proved to be extremely helpful.  She notes the National Weather Service is always looking at ways to be more specific and they are currently looking at improving the way they specify the dangers of storms.

The new system that started five years also helps KCII bring you the information during our severe weather action team coverage.
