World Stroke Day Tomorrow

Tomorrow is World Stroke Day and a local doctor is sharing some essential information regarding signs, treatment and prevention. Emergency Room Director at Washington County Hospital Dr. Don Miller shares that some of the most common symptoms of a stroke include not being able to move an arm or leg, change in speech, dizziness and headache.
He urges those who have had a stroke to seek treatment immediately for the best possible results. If a patient qualifies, a clot breaking drug can be administered, which could open up the vessel and reverse some or all of the symptoms.
He adds if you miss the time window for the drug there’s still treatment that can be done, but your left with treating symptoms, rehab and working on future prevention. Options for preventing strokes range from living healthy to taking aspirin if it’s recommended by your doctor.
