Kalona now has a hazard mitigation plan on file. At their most recent meeting, the Kalona City Council held a second reading of the Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan, and decided to waive the third reading. The plan was put together by ECCOG in conjunction with Washington and Washington County using a grant that was written and secured for this purpose. The plan identifies key infrastructure and buildings in the City, including the schools, city hall and so on. The plan also allows the city to tap into federal funds they wouldn’t have been able to otherwise.
