A Kalona child placed second in today’s National Bible Bee finals.10 year old Taylor Bontrager competed against 5 other finalists this morning and took the second place prize of $10,000. Taylor’s father Marlin says the whole family is very excited.
Taylor and his brother 15 year old Joshua Bontrager made it past the qualifiers in August to make it to this week’s Bible Bee in Tennessee. Their sister Chelsy Bontrager says that leading up to the contest they each had 300 to 500 verses from the King James Bible to memorize for the oral portion, and books from the New Testament to study for the written exam.
On Thursday, after the written and oral portions of the contest, Taylor made it into the semi-finals and yesterday he made it into this morning’s finals.
