The City of Kalona will be reviewing their burning ordinance following some input from concerned citizens. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says at last weeks meeting two residents expressed concerns regarding the leaf and grass burning going on in the City.

According to Schlabaugh the City’s ordinance dealing with burning within City limits says if a resident has an issue they need to contact City Hall or the neighbor that’s burning and ask them to stop. He says further action has never been necessary. He adds if they feel the ordinance needs changing after they review it, they might look at putting parameters on when burning can happen.

He says another possible answer could be the proposed compost area the City would look to start work on in the spring.
