The Washington County Health Inspector has some ideas for staying healthy during Thanksgiving. Jennine Wolf suggests not washing raw turkey or any raw meat for that matter.  She says that bacteria that might be in the raw food is killed when it’s cooked to the correct temperature.  Washing risks splattering bacteria to other kitchen surfaces, and that could lead to contamination.  Turkeys should be cooked to an internal temperature of 185 degrees, and Wolf says to use a food thermometer to make sure that is the case.
