The Washington Demon girl’s basketball team played at the Mid-Prairie Jamboree last night and tied the half of basketball they play with West Branch at 16.
For the first six minutes of the game the Demons were scoreless, and racked up 15 first quarter fouls.
Dema Giardino was the leading scorer for the Demons with four points, with Johannah Vittetoe hitting the court for the first time after her volleyball injury scoring three.
On West Branch’s side Lexi Luneckas was the leading scorer with nine.
Demon head coach Phil Long says not scoring a lot is okay is this game, because there are bigger things to make sure his team is doing.
“If you miss a shot, I can live with that, because at least you are doing what you were supposed to be doing. To play 12 kids in a half time, everyone is nervous, scared to death, first time we are playing a lot of different rotations because we’re going to play 12 kids, and to be behind 6-0 right from the get go, we went three or four minutes without scoring, but we clawed back and tied it up.” Long said. “And then to have a Senior like Beth Dillon realize time and situation take it to the rack and tie it and end it, maybe it was best it ended in just a tie.”
Washington plays again next on Saturday at the Iowa hall of Pride Game against WACO.
